Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Skillteq ("Skillteq", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use the Skillteq mobile application and related services (the "Service"). Skillteq is operated by Last Mile Mobility (Pty) Ltd, 2 Fairway Close, N2 Goose Valley Golf Estate, Plettenberg Bay 6600, South Africa. We process personal information in accordance with the South African Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), and, where applicable, the EU/UK GDPR.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, password, and role (customer and/or provider).
- Profile information: profile photo, service categories, skills, certificates, portfolio images, service areas, and availability (for providers).
- Location data: approximate and precise GPS location, used to match you with nearby providers and to set job locations. Collected only while you use the app and with your permission.
- Job and transaction data: service requests, quotes, bookings, messages, job status, ratings, reviews, and payout/wallet records.
- Payment information: processed by our payment provider (Paystack). We do not store full card numbers. We retain transaction references and amounts.
- Communications: in-app messages, voice messages, attached photos, shared locations, and support requests.
- Device and usage data: device identifiers, app version, push notification tokens, log data, and diagnostic information.
- App usage analytics: which screens you view and which features you use, together with a random analytics identifier. This identifier is not linked to your name, email address, or account, and your IP address is anonymised. You can turn usage analytics off at any time (see Section 7).
- Calendar: if you allow it, scheduled jobs can be saved to your device calendar. We do not read your existing calendar events.
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
- Create and manage your account and verify providers.
- Match customers with nearby providers and broadcast requests.
- Facilitate quotes, bookings, messaging, payments, and payouts.
- Send transactional and service notifications (quotes, messages, job updates).
- Maintain safety, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms.
- Provide customer support and resolve disputes.
- Understand how the Service is used (screens viewed, features used) so we can improve it. This analytics data is collected on our own self-hosted analytics platform, is not linked to your identity, and is never used for advertising.
- Improve and secure the Service and comply with legal obligations.
3. LEGAL BASES FOR PROCESSING
We process personal information to perform our contract with you, with your consent (e.g. location, camera, microphone, notifications), to comply with legal obligations, and for our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Service.
4. HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION
- Between users: relevant profile, job, location, and contact details are shared between matched customers and providers to deliver the Service.
- Service providers (processors): Supabase (authentication, database, storage), Paystack (payments), Brevo (email), and Expo (push notifications).
- Analytics: usage analytics are processed on a self-hosted Matomo instance running on infrastructure we control. Analytics data is not sent to, or shared with, any third-party analytics or advertising company.
- Legal and safety: where required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users and the public.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
Some of our processors may store or process data outside South Africa. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection consistent with POPIA and applicable law.
6. DATA RETENTION
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, then for any period required to comply with legal, accounting, tax, or dispute-resolution obligations. When no longer required, information is deleted or anonymised.
7. YOUR RIGHTS
Subject to applicable law, you may request to access, correct, update, or delete your personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent. You may exercise these rights in-app or by contacting us at support@skillteq.co.za.
You can turn off usage analytics at any time in the app under Profile > Privacy & Security > Usage Analytics; the Service remains fully functional with analytics off.
8. ACCOUNT AND DATA DELETION
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile > Account > Delete Account. Deletion permanently removes your account and associated personal data, except information we are required or permitted to retain by law. You may also email support@skillteq.co.za to request deletion.
9. SECURITY
We use technical and organisational measures including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. CHILDREN
The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified in-app or by email, and the "Last updated" date above will be revised.
